When people get divorced they usually share half of everything that they own. In the case where the children are under sixteen years old the mother is allowed to stay in the house. On them reaching sixteen she must then sell the house and give half of the proceeds to the father. In some cases a mother might take out an extra mortgage to pay the father his half. By doing this she will then be able to stay in the same house. People get married, have children and live happily together sometimes for as long as sixty years or more. Their own children will get married and then the grandchildren come along.
